POWER ELECTRONICS DESIGN ENGINEER
COMPANY DESCRIPTION, PROFILE AND SCOPE OF ROLE:
Our Client is well established engineering/manufacturing business and world leader in their field.
This role represents an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Power Electronics Design Engineer. The successful candidates will Support in the design, development and testing of hardware / software solutions, working alongside a Principle Project Engineer & Project ManagerKEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The development, analysis, and validation of design solutions to meet the project requirements using prototyping, simulation and validation by test techniques.
• Generation of all functional, component, manufacturing, test and validation specifications. Contribute to the delivery of accurate project documentation.
• Ensuring that all design solutions are robust, reliable, meet the budgeted cost and are on time.
• Support related activities such as drawing and printed circuit board development.
• Liaising with test and production departments during product introduction process, including design of test rigs.
• Supporting the installation and commissioning of equipment at the customers premises.
• Assisting the Principal Engineer in the planning, test set-up and operation of qualification tests as necessary, including tests conducted off site. The production of accurate qualification test reports.
• Preparation of materials for design reviews. Provide advice on all aspects of design and engineering to management and staff to ensure effective decision making.
• Participate in, and where requested, lead risk mitigation activities including DFMEA and Hazard analysisQUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
ESSENTIAL
• Minimum of a BEng in Electronics Engineering 2:1 or higher
• Demonstrable experience in design and test of Power Electronic Converters (AC:AC, DC:DC, DC:AC) and/or Motor Drives. Be able to demonstrate experience in using simulation tools including PLECS/CADSTAR and/or Matlab/Simulink
• Knowledge of Power Electronics Design, Analogue and Systems Engineering, Digital Electronics, System Simulation, Embedded Systems and Control Engineering. Knowledge of EMC standards and mitigation through design
• Good communication and presentation skills, written and oral. Motivated and organised individual who is at ease liaising with customers and suppliers as well as other internal functions within the company.
DESIRABLE
• Post graduate qualification in Electronic Engineering (M.Eng or PhD), Member of IET, Chartered Engineer
• Experience of Energy and Industrial Power Products / Experience of Energy, Rail, Defence and/or Industrial Power Products. Support for preparation of technical bids
• Knowledge of microprocessor control, software development, thermal design and specification of electromagnetic assemblies. Proven managerial and leadership skills i.e. experienced in managing day to day running of a team of 3-6 multi-disciplined engineers.
• Capable of determining a strategic technical direction and steering the team to fulfil the agreed objectives.
