COMPANY DESCRIPTION, PROFILE AND SCOPE OF ROLE:
Our client is an award winning and long established global manufacturing company. They make strong and sustained investment in people, capital and plant and are an acknowledged leader in their field. As part of their succession planning they are looking to appoint a purchasing specialist who will assume the role of Purchasing Manager when the current incumbent leaves the role (the timing for this has already been agreed) The successful candidate will help to develop and implement an effective purchasing strategy that enables the purchase of the best quality goods and services at the most competitive prices to enable the company to achieve its customer and commercial aims.
 
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Purchasing of materials and services to the required quality standards at the most competitive costs.
Assisting corporate purchasing function with negotiations for all major material supplier contracts
Negotiating purchasing contracts for local suppliers such as packaging, consumables and services. 
Investigating pricing offers from current suppliers and identifying new suppliers which offer competitive pricing combined with high quality products and service
Managing stocks of raw materials within the agreed financial limits and ensure that all production and customer needs are met.
Verifying supplier despatch notification against SAP and investigating and resolving discrepancies.
Analysing stock data to identify trends in material usage, excess demands or obsolescence 
Investigate discrepancies in stock levels to minimize financial impact on business
Using data to suggest improvements and new initiatives. 
Implementing Purchasing Guidelines from Central Purchasing and working closely with the central team to ensure a European/Global purchasing strategy is met. 
Applying expertise to drive continuous improvement within existing purchasing systems to increase effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
Liaising with suppliers to ensure raw materials/parts are delivered on time
Monitoring supplier performance on a continuous basis and identifying corrective actions to enable all suppliers to achieve ‘A’ grade performance
Developing and coaching suppliers to improve quality, on-time delivery and service standards.
Monitoring and optimising the delivery of materials and consumables to ensure critical KPIs and business results are achieved e.g. inventory. 
Reviewing stock levels of traded parts using SAP to ensure timely delivery of correct parts. Monitors KPI performance for trends and implements improvement actions.
 
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
It would be advantageous to hold  business, Purchasing or Supply Chain Management related 
It would also be advantageous to possess Full membership status of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply 
Demonstrable experience in a purchasing or supply chain role/environment
Knowledge of customer needs and requirements (internal and external) 
It would be advantageous to have a some understanding of materials, manufacturing and planning processes 
Strong numeracy skills and analytical ability 
Proficient knowledge and application of SAP, pool4tool, ERP systems, web-based data, data management and analysis 
Excellent interpersonal skills, works effectively within a team, supports colleagues, high level of personal integrity 
Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to persuade, influence and, when appropriate, challenge with tact and diplomacy 
Confident networking skills and the ability to quickly form and maintain effective relationships 
Convincing communication style with a broad variety of hierarchies, functions and backgrounds of people 
Strong time management skills with the ability to deliver to deadlines
