Description
COMPANY DESCRIPTION, PROFILE AND SCOPE OF ROLE:
Our Client is one of UK’s most innovative and efficient deep-sea ports handling cargoes across five continents. Business and a world leader in their field. This role represents an excellent opportunity for an experienced marine Craftsperson/Engineer to work within a highly professional team. The successful candidate will carry out mechanical & electrical fault finding, systems installation and the maintenance of marine assets in accordance with safety standards procedures and current regulations. NB: Locations will included Tyne Dock and other River Tyne related locations.
 
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carry out planned and reactive work to the Port’s marine equipment and associated ancillary pontoons and moorings.
Diagnose and repair faults on a widespread asset portfolio within the Marine services business area.
Responsible for ensuring maximum vessel on station availability in accordance with in house predetermined service level agreements.
Liaise with the Marine Services Department with regard to planned off station asset availability.
To carry out the appropriate statutory testing on marine equipment including classification inspection for vessels
Subject to approval by the Foreman, plan and manage the working day based upon the job cards issued.
To compile lists for the ordering of installation materials and spare parts.
To liaise with and provide technical support to contractors as required.
Instruct others when required on aspects of own work. Provide advice, instruction and training to Apprentices.
Agreements together with a high standard of customer care.
Carry mobile phone and participate in the Standby/call-out rota for maintenance services and work overtime to carry out works as required by management.
Supervise specific tasks as requested
Identify and source parts as required, check availability of spares and prepare documentation for authorisation
Monitor and complete stores requisitions / Prepare/allocate shift rota’s / Carry and respond to company mobile phone
 
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
ESSENTIAL
Must have a recognised Apprenticeship with a City and Guilds Parts 1 and 2 or equivalent, 
Demonstrable post apprenticeship experience of marine maintenance and installation, along with recent sea going or craft operation experience
Ability to diagnose and remedy faults to specification.
Ability to prepare vessels for classification inspection
Sound knowledge of the Workboat Code and associated marine engineering standards.
Ability to install new systems to specification.
Knowledge of maintaining marine equipment.
Ability to read and understand Technical drawings
Knowledge of health and safety issues specific to the role
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
IT skills/computer literate
Must be able to work overtime as required
Able to work alone as well as part of a team
Able to work at heights and in confined spaces
Self-motivated and able to work using own initiative
Full current driving licence. Mileage allowance will be paid for any use of personal vehicle during work hours.
PRERRED, BUT NOT ESSENTAL
HNC/HND in marine engineering or similar Boatmaster’s Advanced powerboat or RYA Coastal Skipper Certificate would be an advantage.
Personal Sea Survival Training / Elementary First Aid or equivalent / Recognised VHF operators certificate / Certificate in Fire Fighting
Details of Package: £32,000 Pro Rata + Overtime + Benefits (Basic hours are 37.5 mon-Fri) (Overtime paid at premium rate: £24.65PH)
