- COMPANY DESCRIPTION, PROFILE AND SCOPE OF ROLE:Our Client is well established and growing business and a leader in their field.This role represents an excellent career opportunity for a driven and ambitious Commercial Engineering Manager.The Engineering Commercial Manager will be responsible for the commercial and financial performance of the business unit. The role works in partnership with operational management and includes effectively leading the engineering team. This includes identifying and developing opportunities in the marketplace. The role reports to the Managing Director of the group.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:• Responsible for achieving growth and profit objectives as set by and agreed with company directors. Identify and create business strategy for achieving company objectives. The ECM will be expected to put management controls in place such as KPI’s and be familiar with relevant quality standards.• Help establish the department as a standalone business whilst maintaining linked activity with other business units.• Lead commercial activity, including project management, and where required work with the external sales team to identify, develop and grow business from the existing customer base or target new. This includes• Motivate team members and support a positive team culture. Support operational initiatives to implement efficiency and quality objectives.• Report business performance to company directors on a weekly/monthly basis as required.• Working with the CNC Manager deliver all of the KPIs relating to the Engineering business.• Prepare for and attend weekly, daily and monthly meetings as required.• Responsible for Project Management of live projects including technical support across departments whilst passing information to operations seamlessly to ensure customer requirements are met. This includes supporting customer meetings and working in conjunction with MOR.• Conducting HR activities that include staff appraisals, objectives setting, absence and sickness management, holiday approvals and disciplinary issues. (Performance Management)• Interviewing for new positions as required.• Supporting the preparation of departmental budgets and resources planning with Operations Management.• Manage relationships with core customer accounts in support with the field sales team and or in a lead role.• To positive influence and support all team members to help achieve collective objectives.• Demonstrate good leadership skills and give clear communication to all areas of the business.• When required practically support peaks in workload.• Work with the Commercial Team to identify and develop opportunities of growth through additional market sectors and/or service offerings.• Work with department heads to help achieve company objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:• Preferably educated to degree level or equivalent with business/management/Engineering• Minimum of 10 years practical experience of working with engineering environments.• Experience working within small and larger companies.• Strong technical background.• Strong commercial background (astute and able to identify and help to deliver market opportunities and business growth)• Ideally they will have customers they can bring to the business.• Sound financial and P&L knowledge/experience• Strong customer facing skills• The ideal candidate will have achieved promotion through the ranks, have management experience and be ready for the next career step.• Experience of implementing quality systems and procedures is important (including management initiatives such as 5s and or Lean Manufacturing).• Ambitious forward thinking and self-driven individual who can help take the business and the people to the next level.• Prepared to possibly take a step back in terms of day to day duties short term, and possibly roll their sleeves up, before then taking the business several steps forward.
